It was not the regular school day. Midterm exams were starting today, and Maya already felt worn out prepping her 10-year-old for the exam! Messy bun, wrinkled salwar and chipped nails; while she felt exhausted, household chores and office work kept her alert and on her toes. Amidst all the chaos, how was she going to keep the fervour intact for the next 10 days, the thought loomed large!
Being out in the hustle and bustle of everyday life, did she have time to introspect much, she wondered! While the morning rituals kept her busy, today, she wanted to do something new and different.
Something out of the schedule.
Something fresh and not so usual.
Something which was not planned!
May be something which will make her feel special!
It was 9 A.M already. Stealthily, she looked at her husband who kept busy while starting his day for the office work on a busy Monday morning. She had time until 3 PM when her son would be back from school. She looked forward to having some rejuvenating time with her partner in a park, to walk hand in hand, to laugh at each other jokes, to get lost in silly conversations and to travel back in time when they had met each other for the first time! But he seemed lost in his regimen, answering emails while sipping the hot fresh ginger tea.
In the past 15 years of their togetherness, he had never tried to break the monotony of the everyday life. He was going with the flow, Maya never understood if he liked the sameness of the everyday life, or he had lost the longingness of her company while getting torn between the relentless professional and personal aspirations. His plate seemed full, and he had no time for the extra fun!
But Maya needed a break, if not with the partner, then with herself! With “Out of office” on outlook, she was half ready. She picked up the red lipstick to pout her blues away. Adorning the pearl dangling in her ears and with the never touched stilettos, she was ready to go to her favourite restaurant to enjoy her favourite meal and to spend some time with herself! While she stepped out of the house, she felt a tinge in her heart for it was the first time, she was going to be on her own. Did it hurt, albeit, it felt a new leash of life, making her relish the new-found freedom!
